Requirements and Training Schedule

What You’ll Need to Help VIP Help Children

For a mentor, the requirements and training needed are simple – especially when you consider the difference your participation will make in the life of a young person.

A potential mentor must be at least 21 years old, and possess a valid Michigan driver’s license, reliable transportation, and auto insurance. Applicants must be willing to undergo a criminal background check.

After completing an application and background check form, new mentors also attend a training and orientation, and an interview with VIP staff. Training sessions last from two and a half to three hours, and are held regularly. Sessions include an overview of the entire program, as well as directed learning to facilitate a meaningful relationship between mentors and young people.

Upcoming Training and Orientation Sessions

All sessions are held at VIP Mentoring Office
