The mission of VIP is to create meaningful mentoring relationships for children in Michigan.
Our primary focus is on young people in the city of Detroit, and parts of Wayne County, where challenging circumstances seriously compromise opportunities to succeed. Mentors help create relationships early in children’s lives to help prevent behaviors that could lead to the child’s involvement with the judicial system.
VIP Mentoring is based in Detroit’s New Center area, and has been working since 1980 to break the cycle of truancy, dependency, abuse and incarceration for at-risk children and adults. Our professional staff is dedicated to matching at-risk youth with responsible, caring adult mentors. Most children in the program live in single-parent and low-income households, often in neighborhoods affected by crime and incarceration.
